Canada. DMFT Score: 1.0. Canada scores slightly above Mexico in their respective DMFT indexas well as on our list of countries with the best and straightest teeth and oral health in the world. The Decayed, Missing, and Filled Teeth (DMFT) index has been used since the 1930s 27 and today is the predominant population-based measure of caries experience worldwide. This index gives the sum of an individual's decayed, missing, and filled permanent teeth or surfaces (DMFS). Mean decayed, missing, or filled permanent teeth (DMFT) among children with any caries was 2.1 (Table 11).

Decayed, missing (from tooth decay), filled teeth (dmft) describes if any filling is present or not. Dmfs and dmft are used for permanent teeth. Decayed, extracted (because of tooth decay), filled teeth (deft) is used for primary (baby) teeth. In 1979 the most important goal ever to be formulated for global oral health was announced by WHO. By the year 2000, the global average for dental caries was to be no more than 3 DMFT at 12 years of age. At the World Health Assembly in 1979, this declaration was unanimously allocated as being the overriding priority for WHO. DMFT = Decayed-Missed-Filled-Teeth 2. DMFS = Decayed-Missed-Filled-Surfaces 3.

The dmft index expresses the number of affected teeth in the primary dentition, with scores ranging from 0 to 20 for children. The dmfs index expresses the number of affected surfaces in primary dentition (five per posterior tooth and four per anterior tooth), with a score range of 0 to 88 surfaces.

The index Dental caries indices for primary and permanent dentition (dmft/DMFT) were measured by clinical examinations inside the schools. The examinations were based on the standardized international criteria proposed by WHO for oral health surveys using WHO probe, disposable mouth mirrors and gauze pads [ 3 ].
